The ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago community mourns the death of John F. Cuneo Jr., a life trustee and generous supporter of Loyola.
John and his former wife, the late Herta Cuneo, gifted the University with the Cuneo Mansion and Gardens in Vernon Hills, Cuneo Hall at the Lake Shore Campus, and the John and Herta Cuneo Center, which houses the Stritch School of Medicine. Their $50 million gift in 2009 includes the historic mansion, its nearly 100 surrounding acres, an extensive collection of art and furnishings, and scholarship support.
John continued the legacy of his family’s long-standing relationship with Loyola, who have been committed supporters, benefactors, and friends of the University for more than 60 years. His father, John Cuneo Sr., helped found the Stritch School of Medicine Annual Award Dinner in 1950. In addition to his association with the University, John also spent many years at the helm of The Cuneo Foundation, providing talented students with need-based scholarships at local high schools and universities. The Foundation continues to award over $500,000 annually, supporting students who need assistance accessing Roman Catholic education in the greater Chicago area.
The lasting impact the Cuneo family has made on the University will help ºÚÁÏÃÅcontinue our work of preparing students to lead extraordinary lives. To read Mr. Cuneo’s full obituary, click .
