Biography
Gabrielle M. Buckley, J.D.
Gabrielle brings extensive experience in international law, human rights, social justice, diversity, and the empowerment of women and children to the Gannon Center. In addition to her role as Director of the Gannon Center, she also serves on the Quinlan Business School's Baumhart Center Faculty Council. Gabrielle holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Mundelein College and a Juris Doctorate from DePaul University. She is an adjunct professor of law at the John Marshall Law School and previously lectured on Business Law at Northwestern University.
Gabrielle is a member of the American Bar Association (ABA) 12-member Commission on Women in the Profession, leads the ABA International Law Section鈥檚 Committee on the 19th Amendment, and co-chairs the International Section鈥檚 Women鈥檚 Interest Network. She also serves on the International Committee of DirectWomen, an organization that prepares women to serve on corporate boards around the world.
Gabrielle previously chaired the ABA鈥檚 24,000-member International Law Section and represents the Section in the ABA鈥檚 House of Delegates. She serves on the Leadership Council of the National Immigrant Justice Center, and previously served on the boards of the Federal Bar Association (Chicago), RefugeeONE, the United Nations Association, Chicago Chapter and WorldChicago, both of which she chaired. She is a frequent speaker on topics ranging from international law, women鈥檚 issues, immigration, access to justice, and entrepreneurship.
Prior to joining the Gannon Center for Women and Leadership in 2018, Gabrielle spent 17 years as a shareholder/partner with the Corporate Department of Vedder Price P.C., an AmLaw 200 law firm with seven offices around the world. She served on the Firm鈥檚 Pro Bono and Diversity Committees for many years and formed and chaired the Firm鈥檚 International Practice Group. She counseled organizations in many industries on all aspects of international direct investment, global employment/immigration law compliance, and global business immigration law. She previously practiced corporate law with Katten Muchin Rosenman and Kelley Drye & Warren in Chicago and New York. Ms. Buckley also served in the roles of Assistant Corporate Secretary and Antitrust Counsel with Borg-Warner Corporation and Borg-Warner Automotive, Inc. in Chicago and Troy, Michigan.
Gabrielle holds an 鈥淎V Preeminent鈥� Peer Rating in Martindale-Hubbell and is ranked in Chambers Global. She has been an Illinois Super Lawyer since 2013, being named one of the publication鈥檚 鈥淭op Women Attorneys in Illinois鈥� in that year. She has also been recognized as 鈥淐orporate Woman of the Year鈥� by the National Association of Women Business Owners.
