"ºÚÁÏÃÅAcademy Visual Arts Department is honored to exhibit student work at ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Museum of Art’s Push Pin Gallery. This show displays work from Advanced Placement Studio, Honors Studio 3, Studio 2 and Photography. Displaying a variety of artistic approaches, projects include drawings, paintings, printmaking and mixed media.
The theme that we chose, Cura Personalis “care of the whole person” allows us to work with a range of student ideas and experiences. We hope you will find evidence of this care in each piece. We explained to the students that their submissions should demonstrate care of self, care of others, care of their immediate communities and/or care of the global community. Through the creative process our young artists begin to understand who they are and how they fit into the world. This, of course, is a spiritual pursuit seeing the presence of God in all we do. We encourage our students to push, challenge, question and discuss through risk-taking, experimentation and hard work. This is the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm, which is defined by experience, reflection, action and evaluation. This is the studio practice that we as artists and teachers try to model for our students.
I would like to thank LUMA for this opportunity. I would also like to thank Father Patrick McGrath, president of ºÚÁÏÃÅAcademy and Dr. Katie Baal, principal of ºÚÁÏÃÅAcademy who generously and enthusiastically support the art programs and art students at ºÚÁÏÃÅAcademy."
