Student Organizations

The School of Social Work Student Organization (SSWSO) exists to support and enhance every student’s educational experience at ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago’s School of Social Work.

The SSWSO organizes social events, community service opportunities, and lively discussions for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. The organization's efforts enliven the SSW student experience and foster relationships among students, faculty, and staff beyond the classroom. The SSWSO is a conduit to strengthening your ties to other aspiring social work professionals, discovering professional opportunities, developing valuable skills, and learning about the vast social work landscape in new and dynamic ways.

As all SSW students are SSWSO members, you already have a voice in this spirited organization. You can become more involved, however, by attending SSWSO events, joining a committee, or becoming an SSWSO board member.

Social Workers of Color Alliance

A School of Social Work student organization that plans networking, social gatherings, and social justice events that reflect diverse populations and perspectives.

Social Workers of Color Alliance (SWoCA) is committed to constructing a community of support in order to enhance our academic experience as students of color. We are devoted to raising discerning voices and seek a transformative change for how social work education is conceived and delivered.

The purpose of the Social Workers of Color Alliance is to raise consciousness and serve the needs of students of color.  We plan to create a safe space in order to share and bridge unique experiences.  As an organization, we hope to influence the development of a more inclusive curriculum that reflects our diverse population. Through mutual respect and valuing of our varying cultures, we recognize that we have a responsibility to each other and to the betterment of our community.

All interested undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students as well as alumni are welcome to participate in SWoCA. No student is to be excluded from membership or participation on the basis of his or her race, color, genetic information, creed, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, veteran status, marital status, political affiliation or physical, mental or medical disability unrelated to the purpose of the organization.

If you would like to get more involved, you can:
