Statement of Purpose

Susan Haarman I am excited to join USC because of my deep commitment to the Jesuit mission of forming people for and with others, and to advancing justice within our university community. Having been at ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago for 13 years, I am passionate about creating more intentional opportunities for staff development, community building, and leadership rooted in our shared values. I bring experience in mission-driven leadership, civic engagement, and program design, and I am eager to help the Council expand initiatives that promote professional growth, strengthen networks, and foster reflection.
Chris Hardin I was drawn to the opportunity to join the University Staff Council to positively represent the Department of Residence Life & Division of Student Development at a University-wide level. After completing my MBA in 2024 and obtaining my Project Management Professional certification in 2023, I have been seeking opportunities to put those skills to greater use and believe serving as part of USC would allow me the opportunity to advocate for the needs of staff to promote a positive and supportive work environment. In my 7 years at Loyola, I have effectively built relationships across the university and believe in the power of collaboration for the betterment of our workplace. It would be an honor to be selected for a position on USC and I would diligently serve the community during my term.
Hanna Kinney I am passionate about advocating for my colleagues and creating spaces where staff feel supported, heard, and empowered to share their concerns and ideas. I believe in a collaborative approach to community building and problem-solving, and we need and should want to include all voices in decision-making. Through leading a vibrant residential community, serving on the Engage ºÚÁÏÃÅFocus Group, and fostering genuine conversations with colleagues in my department and others, I have seen the impact of strong, authentic connections. After over two years at Loyola, I recognize that some are putting in the work to build community, but we can do even more beyond our individual offices and divisions. If given the opportunity, I would focus on advocating for staff voices, building relationships across campuses, and helping create a ºÚÁÏÃÅwhere all staff feel a true sense of belonging, authenticity, and pride in the work we all do together.
Zach Lyman Joining University Staff Council will grant me the opportunity to connect with other staff members across campus and learn from them. It is a chance to build a community outside my own office by working towards a common goal of improving the experiences for all ºÚÁÏÃÅstaff members. Part of my role as an Academic Advisor is to be an advocate for students, so my skills in providing proactive communication and resources would serve the University Staff Council, and by extension my ºÚÁÏÃÅcolleagues, well. This requires someone who continuously asks questions and has a solutions-orientated mindset, both of which I possess and are critical in fulfilling the University Staff Council's mission.
Maren Morrison I am excited to submit my candidacy to join USC! As a staff member at ºÚÁÏÃÅfor just over two years and experience in two different departments, I have felt so welcomed and supported by multiple staff members at this university. I’m eager to join USC to return that support to others, as well as get to know other members of the ºÚÁÏÃÅcommunity that I might not interact with regularly in my work. In addition to working closely with students throughout my professional career, I’ve worked as an administrative assistant, program coordinator, HR specialist, and student intern at multiple universities. I hope to bring these experiences of diverse staff roles to this committee and connect with others to continue to make ºÚÁÏÃÅa place that supports and empowers all staff members.
Sujith Sajan As a proud double alum and current staff member, I am deeply committed to Loyola's mission and values we share as a community. I believe deeply in elevating the voices of staff, celebrating our contributions, and creating spaces where everyone feels connected and valued. With my firsthand knowledge of Loyola's culture, a heart rooted in Loyola's mission and background in collaboration and service, I am prepared to support the Staff Council's work in the coming year and beyond.
Matt Sara I believe I can provide a unique perspective serving on the USC as I’ve been part of ºÚÁÏÃÅfor the last 20 years as both a student and staff member. Staff play a crucial role in the operation of the university and deserve more support than they receive. I would like to foster an environment that promotes the professional development of staff and provides the clarity necessary to serve our students to the best of our ability.
Jayeesha Williams As someone new to Loyola, I’m excited to learn more about how the University Staff Council has already contributed to fostering community and care for staff. I’m also eager to bring a fresh perspective on how we can continue strengthening that community for both current and incoming staff. I bring strong skills in communication, collaboration, and a deep commitment to building a campus where everyone feels seen, supported, and valued. I would be honored to contribute to USC’s ongoing work of making ºÚÁÏÃÅan even more welcoming and connected place for all.
Randy Wooding I have served many organizations for over two decades, empowering new colleagues in the information technology industry, and for the last 12 years in higher education. My focus has been on encouraging the pursuit of knowledge, education, certification, and the growth of contributions—not only to the organization but also to fellow colleagues at large. I stand firmly on the principle that we should empower and encourage one another to enhance our development and service, in whatever capacity we find our gifts as our highest calling. I am committed to the overall health and success of each staff member as a person first, then as a professional and ensure that I lend my voice and lead constructive conversations for those who may feel omitted or unattended. With 20 years of leadership experience, I am ready and willing to be creative to achieve better results. I am an advocate for change and for shepherding progress in areas where stagnation and outdated processes—or disengaged participants—have caused a loss of faith or hope."
Natalia Zychowska I am interested in joining University Staff Council because I think it's important to holistically foster and advocate for the wellbeing of staff at Loyola. One of the parts of my job in First and Second Year Advising that I value the most is the supportive culture within our department. I am our office's fun committee chair and have really enjoyed working with my colleagues to organize events for the team to celebrate each other and our accomplishments. I would love to use those experiences to continuously contribute to USC's mission of creating a spirit of unity, as I believe that cultivating those positive connections among all the staff members between our three campuses is fundamental to the university.

Statement of Purpose

Caroline Gosselin I have been a staff member at ºÚÁÏÃÅfor over 10 years, in the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, and now in the School of Social Work. During this time, I have seen staff presence in my schools become more prevalent and staff voices are more resonant. As someone who has held a number of roles within the University, I have been student facing and I also work very closely with internal departments at the University to plan events. I feel a connection to students and staff here, and would welcome the opportunity to lend my experience and learn from others as to how to continue to increase staff presence and carry on the ºÚÁÏÃÅmission.
Patrick Hulseman I'm deeply honored to be nominated for the University Staff Council. My passion for fostering an inclusive community comes from a desire to create a better future for others, ensuring that people have opportunities I was lucky enough to receive, as well as providing opportunities I did not. I bring strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills, developed through my leadership in affinity groups, my role in the Graduate school and throughout my career. I’m eager to contribute to shaping a more supportive and equitable campus. I hope to help the Council achieve its mission and goals for the 2025-26 academic year and beyond.
Jon Knecht Cura personalis invites us to consider the entirety of a person - including their flaws, triumphs, strengths, and weaknesses - that all form one's story. With such a diverse and robust community of staff at ºÚÁÏÃÅUniversity Chicago, it is through this lens of cura personalis that I believe each one of us has a unique story to tell that informs how we contribute to and support the LUC community. As someone who is passionate about sharing the stories of current students and staff within my department at SCPS through published features and newsletter content, I am ecstatic to be considered for the Communications committee for University Staff Council. Whether it is serving as a liaison between UMC and USC for marketing purposes or overseeing our website, I am encouraged by the promise USC holds to foster a spirit of unity amongst employees as well as represent our staff through the University governance system. My growth and development thus far at ºÚÁÏÃÅhas been shaped by systems of support and representation, and I look forward to serving on USC where I may now contribute to upholding such an environment.
Adam Schalke In merciless, uncertain times, it becomes tempting to abandon community and turn inward in the pursuit of self-preservation, but the staff members of ºÚÁÏÃÅresist that temptation every day by working together and providing support for one other. I am running for University Staff Council in order to do my part and offer support to my incredible colleagues. If elected to the Council, my priorities will be to advance staff welfare and well-being, recognize and celebrate the staff members who personify Loyola's values, and explore new and improved ways to foster a healthy, vibrant community.
